Running coach

Date: 4/6/21
Training Day: 74
Miles: 3
Time: 35 min
Shoes: Altra Paradigm 5
Weather: N/A (indoors on a treadmill)
Strength Training: Chest, triceps, back & traps

How It Felt: The run felt amaze-balls! Just so happy to be running! Strength workouts were the same as last week, so they were boring, but they still felt good.

Commentary: Although it has been 74 days since I first started training for a 100-miler, today is my first day of training with a running coach. Yep, it’s official! Eric Senseman from Sundog Running is helping me reach my 100-mile goal.

My friend who does ultras never had a running coach. She simply followed the advice of ultrarunner friends and did great. Part of me believes I could have done the same. But the anxiety-ridden part of me thought otherwise.

Sure, I understand the basic idea behind training for an ultra. But what I don’t know is if I’m overdoing it when I add in bike rides, hikes and backpacking trips. And if I have a hectic week and can’t get in the prescribed runs, I don’t know how it impacts my training. But now I have Eric to guide me through the process.

In other news, my knee is doing much better! PT is helping tremendously. I also enjoy going to PT not only because it’s helping, but the folks there are fun and always joking around with each other. It feels more like I’m hanging out and doing some exercises and stretches than just PT.
