Not ready for hills!
Date: 4/17/21
Training Day: 85
Miles: 6.5
Time: 70 min
Shoes: Hoka Challenger ATR 6
Weather: Sunny, low-30s
How It Felt: The hills seemed way more brutal than they should have, lol. Going uphill, I felt like a bitch, but otherwise, I felt good. My calves were burning a wee on the uphills as well.
Commentary: I stalk the trail running club’s events to find trails and dirt roads nearby for my long runs. On Monday a few folks did Trail Hollow Road, and I thought it would be a good place for my long run today.
A few weeks ago a chick send me a Facebook message. She said a friend of hers told her I was looking for a running buddy. I wasn’t running at the time because of my knee, so I told her I’d let her know when I started back up again.
She agreed to meet me for my long run today. This dude who works at the running store that I met at a Tuesday night interval run showed up as well.
I should have done more research on this stretch of road because it was super hilly. Like way more hilly than I was ready for. And way more hilly that chica was ready for as well. Dude runs like 7:40 min/mi on his long runs, so he was working harder staying back with us than if he took off and left us in the dust.
My easy long run was not so easy. My heart rate was way higher than it should have been. I also forgot my inhaler, and we were running at an elevation about 1,500 feet higher than I’m used to.
Next time I plan to find a flatter trail with less elevation gain. At least for now until I get back to where I was before the knee fiasco.
