Freedom to just run
Date: 3/7/21
Training Day: 44
Miles: 3.9 (+7.2 hiking)
Time: 45 min
Shoes: Altra Paradigm 5
Weather: N/A (indoors on a treadmill)
How It Felt: Did the run a wee slow, and it felt awesome. The hike was great! The sun was shining, blue skies, and warm weather!
Commentary: During the Garmin Coach runs I did on the treadmill I struggled to get the pace my watch picked up to match my actual pace. I wanted it to be as accurate as possible since the Garmin training plans are adaptive. I was afraid that if it thought I was running like a sloth it would mess my the future runs.
Today I just ran.
My watch said 12:30-minute mile even though I had the treadmill set to an 11:00-minute mile. It didn’t matter because I’m in charge of my training now. I know how fast I ran, and that’s what matters.
With the Garmin Coach I was also avoiding the treadmill course segments that had a lot of incline to make the runs a wee easier. Today I just ran. And even with the inclines, my average heart rate was lower. I didn’t realize how much extra work I was doing by swinging my arms like a crazy person to get my watch to accurately reflect my pace.
Anyway, today the run was a little weird because my left IT band started feeling tight. Usually it’s the right one. I blame myself because I usually foam roll the right one because of my jank knee. But I ignore the left one. Now I know to keep things equal!
