Rocking socks off!
Date: 8/18/21
Training Day: 23
Miles: 6 (fartlek)
Shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21
Weather: Cloudy, high 50s
How It Felt: Fucking good! Did one mile at half marathon pace with two minutes of recovery, three times. And each mile I was faster than the last and still felt great.
Commentary: Sunday and Tuesday I was supposed to run, but I didn’t. Sunday I was wicked busy all day, and then I was on shift work and couldn’t convince myself to get up stupid early for a 30-minute run.
For the past few nights I’ve slept like poo. I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep because my mind is racing. Probably because I’ve been skipping my nightly routine and just going straight to bed.

Anyway, I assumed my run this morning would suck because of my lack of sleep (got a mere six hours last night), but it was quite the opposite! Perhaps my three days off set me up for a great run.
Overall, my running has improved quite a bit. Thanks to my handy dandy watch and fancy heart rate monitor, I have a shit ton of stats to keep my inner (outer?) nerd happy. My cadence is higher, and my vertical oscillation and ground contact time is down.

While running, my watch analyzes my pace, heart rate, and heart rate variability, and does some magically calculations. It then compares all that jazz to my average performance level and spits out a number – my performance condition. This number was pretty damn good for today’s run. Not gonna lie, I’m a wee proud of myself.
When I got back from my run, my adorable kitten helped me stretch. For some reason she wants ALL the attention whenever I’ve stretching, doing yoga or working out. I want to be annoyed with her, but she’s a cat, so I take whatever loving I can get whenever I can get it.
