Six-mile “rest” day
Date: 2/5/21
Training Day: 14
Miles: 6 (hiking)
Time: Forever (at least it felt like it)
Shoes: Altra Lone Peak 4.0 Mid RSM
Weather: Cloudy, mid-20s
Strength Training: None
Commentary: My personal trainer and I decided I should start taking Fridays off, but “off” is a relative term. I work 4-10s and only work Monday through Thursday. That means I usually have cool shit planned for the weekends, including Friday. Like this weekend.
A bunch of folks invited me to their cabin trip. Hike in six miles with everything we need to survive and spend the weekend in a primitive cabin with no electricity or running water. My kind of weekend. I volunteered to pull a sled full of stuff because it seemed easier than carrying a bunch of weight on my back. Bad idea.
After about a mile and a half I knew I wouldn’t make it the whole six miles. My legs were still sore from leg day on Wednesday, and I still hadn’t regained my strength of days of not eating enough calories. Luckily, one of the guys offered to pull the sled for me.
Even without the sled, I still struggled down the trail. By the time we got to the cabin my legs felt like noodles and hurt like hell. So much for taking Fridays off! At least I worked on my leg strength?
